Barn Renovation

The barn renovation started in the dead of winter as a "warm" place to work to get out of the house and stay out of the cold. James, Brady, Jon, and Joel worked part-time on nights and weekends to clear all the old farm equipment, stored items, and debris from the interior. A colorful array of garbage was stored in the truck until spring, awaiting it's final demise at the Whitman County Landfill. If you plan on taking a lot of unsorted rubbish to the dump, wait until mid-April around Earth Day. They have special pricing for spring cleaning.

Come spring we were really working around the clock to get the barn in the best shape we could before the planting season started. We purchased used crib elevator lumber from a local in Diamond. And started "slapping" it together. We knew once it was time to move the starts from the greenhouse, that it would be too time consuming to continue work on the barn.

Well, Spring came in full force and the barn become a side project. Though we finished the Perch on the third level and came close to accomplishing our finishing goals. Overall, we are currently about 3/4 done. We have several large projects we need to complete before we can finally relax: install spiral staircase, build earthen fireplace, railings installed around Lofty Level, pour radiant soilcrete floors, install new windows and skylights.
